CHIAROSCURO GROUP: CORWIN & MALLIOTAKIS GET WOMEN’S HEALTH RIGHT
Call to Replace Abortion Expansion with Clinic Inspections
Will Ensure Women are Truly Protected
New York, NY–April 28…The Chiaroscuro Group today joined Assemblywomen Jane Corwin and Nicole Malliotakis in their call to replace the 10th point of the Women’s Equality Act – an abortion expansion measure that has held the other 9 points hostage because it lacks consensus from the legislature – with language to require regular inspections of the state’s abortion clinics. The group lauded the female legislators for the measure that would actually result in real protections of women’s health.
“The 10th point of the Women’s Equality Act that expands abortion until birth and allows non-physicians to perform the procedure would threaten women’s reproductive health,” said Chiaroscuro Group President Greg Pfundstein. “It is for this reason the bill lacks consensus, but Assemblywomen Corwin and Malliotakis have put forth a viable alternative that will lead to true health protections for women.”
He continued, “Requiring regular inspections of abortion clinics is something people on both sides of the debate can agree is paramount to ensuring women’s health and safety. We urge the rest of the legislature to replace the 10th point with this provision so that the Women’s Equality Act can no longer be held hostage by this radical expansion.”
